February 20th, 2010Thanksgiving – Already gone?!
November 29th, 2009Can you believe Thanksgiving has come and gone? Well, I was ready…and I am so also ready fro Christmas. The Kelly’s have had their Christmas tree up since November 1st. And, this afternoon, stockings were hung. Now..it’s time to shop! I must say, however, that it didn’t seem like Thanksgiving with the gorgeous weather….not that I’m complaining!
Ryan, Elijah and The Goonies
October 21st, 2009If you’re a parent…you will be able to totally relate to this: One of my favorite movies as kid…I watched with my son last night! Turns out, we both loved the movie. THe title? “The Goonies.” Remember Chunk, Mouth and Sloth? 22 years later, I even remembered a few of the most memorable lines. It was such a fun experience. Next up: “Where the Wild Things Are.” I loved the book…and hopefully we’ll both dig the movie.

Vikings at Pittsburgh
October 21st, 2009The six time world champion Pittsburgh Steelers host the undefeated Minnesota Vikings Sunday afternoon at noon our time. It’s a rematch of Super Bowl IX when the Steelers beat the Vikes for their first World Title. I became a Steelers fan 3 years before that Super Bowl, in 1972 when I watched Franco Harris catch “The Immaculate Reception” live as the Steelers came back to beat the Oakland Raiders in their first play off game in decades. All those formative years before my Dad would hustle us all out of church to get home for the Vikings kick off. Well in 1975, my dad still hadn’t quite got used to my loyalties changing from Minnesota to Pittsburgh. Before Super Bowl IX was over Dad had kicked me out of the house! “If you don’t know who to cheer for get the hell out of here”. I spent that Sunday afternoon at the Armory in Valley City(where anyone can get a pick up basketball game going) helping Jim Hegdahl hold the rabbit ears of his black and white tv watching the Steel Curtain bring home their first world title. I hope I don’t paint my Dad in a poor light; to this day we laugh at that story. My father loves me and I love him dearly. But that day-he’d had too much Dan. Those of you who listen to our morning show probably suffer the same affliction. In 1980 those same Steelers(Terry Bradshaw, Mean Joe Green, L.C. Greenwood, Jack Lambert, Rocky Blier, Donnie Shell, Lynn Swann etc et. al.) were at the old Met to take on the Vikes. My Dad surprised me with tickets to the game. I was playing college football at the time however and my coach would not let me miss the Sunday film session to go to the game. It’s always been a big regret that I didn’t get to go with my family to that game and see those STEELERS. It took until the 2005 season before I’d get to see Pittsburgh play in person. I still have yet to go to Pittsburgh. It’s on the bucket list though. Its hard to believe the STEELERS have won a record 6 world titles since those days of yore. And Minnesota hasn’t earned one. Lots of fans believe with Bret Favre, this may be the year. I still love the Vikes, just not when they’re playing “my” team. Sundays my loyalties go like this: I want Pittsburgh, Minnesota and who’s ever playing the Dallas Cowboys to win. I clearly want the Steel Curtain to prevail Sunday. However, if Minnesota can beat Pittsburgh in the Steel City, then they can beat anyone anywhere and will become the odds on favorite to win Super Bowl IVXXXX!!!
That said: GOSTEELERS!!!!

Reality is getting more and more unreal
October 21st, 2009How about this Richard Heene, aka father of “Balloon Boy”. So hungry for attention and a reality show that he puts others at risk and makes his son lie on national television until he throws up multiple times on live TV. Richard Heene and people like him should be tossed aside instead making the infamous famous. It seems these days…anything you do good or bad turns into money in your pocket. Whether it’s shamed governor Rob Blagojevich getting a gig on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice or indicted politician Tom Delay getting positive press on Dancing with the Stars. Instead of rewarding these people…can’t we just shove them aside and try and forget about them? That’s what should be reality. Mark my words…whatever charges are brought against Richard Heene he’ll certainly come back on “I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here”…and I won’t watch.
The Twins Elton Billy and a 1955 Pontiac
May 4th, 2009Hope you are all doing well and thanks for checking out mojo104.com and our blogs! It was a great weekend. Friday we zoomed down to the Twin Cities and caught the first place (believe it or not) KC Royals and the Minnesota Twins. It was Joe Mauer’’s first game of 2009 and in his first swing at his first at bat he smacked a home run. I felt so fortunate to have been there for that moment. Although the guy next to be appeared to have Swine Flu: he couldn”t quit coughing the entire game. “oink-sneeze”. Oh oh. Those Metrodome seats hug your butt better than my Munsingwear circa 1979. As the Dome has aged the seats have gotten smaller-have you noticed that? We had a lovely dinner of a Dome Dog and a beer and our loan at the concession stand went right thru! just 5 easy payments and they”ll let us get something else!
Patty and I enjoyed walking to the game from our hotel and back too. It was just beautiful in Minneapolis Friday night. We woke up to a beautiful day Saturday and cruised back to Fargo. We spent the day like a lot of you; getting our bikes out, putting stuff away. Getting lawn mowers and out and thankfully putting away the snowblower! I got my 1981 Maxim 650 Yamaha motorcycle out and as with most years, it fired up. Unbelievable. Soon it was time to shower up and get over to the Hub for the Elton John/Billy Joel preparty. It was so nice to see so many of you all having a great time. A big thank you to Andrea and her team from The Hub-they were such gracious hosts! Ryan and I had a wonderful time! We gave away our final tickets to the show and the limo bus for twenty and then it was time to go to the show. I went up to the Fargodome in the MOJO mobile to check out things at the big show. It was kinda weird being at the Metrodome and the Fargodome within hours of each other. Both are so cool. Seats are bigger at the Fargodome. I didn”t go to the show this time around but it seemed like I was the only one! almost 20,000 people at the show! I returned home and enjoyed the Twins, a big fire in the firepit and struggled to keep my eyes open! Sunday I tried to start my 1955 Pontiac Chieftan. I had the engine rebuilt 3 years ago. But the battery was dead from sitting in the garage all winter. So I jumped her and “Gusta” (the vehicle belonged to my Grandma-Gusta Stemhagen, which ended up with her son, my Dad who made me a great deal a few years ago) fired right up! I got her cleaned up and went for a ride. Had to end up charging the battery but she’’s running like a charm today! Hopefully she”ll run well all summer and I”ll get to show her to you!
Keep your MOJO on!!

Ice cream season
May 4th, 2009Blogs are great places to vent about and discuss pet peeves…here’’s one of mine. When the weather turns warmer I”m a big fan of soft-serve ice cream, and usually pick up a cone through a drive-thru. My better half usually gets one of those Blizzard-type treats. So why is, when you order a cone and a Blizzard then wait in the drive-thru line…they always make the cone right away and leave it sitting on the counter to melt, but wait until you pull up to the window to make the Blizzard? Cones melt so much faster and certainly take less time to make. It’’s a running gag for my guy and I, pulling up to the window and watching my cone drip on the counter while his Blizzard is whipped up all fresh and cold. I”m just too passive to raise a stink and complain about it. Anybody else ever encounter this problem? Any other business-related pet peeves?
